The increasing support throughout the year has led us to our 2^nd Annual Msgr. Thomas McDonnell Golf Tournament. There are so many families who count on the Simon of Cyrene Society for support, respite, spiritual guidance and comfort, friendship, camaraderie and most especially funding to assist them in all their needs. Fr. Tom knew how important it was to meet all these needs and that is why this year he will be sending us sunshine to brighten our day of golfing.

So, on Friday, May 31, 2013 at the Franklin Park Golf Course registration starts at 7:00 AM. We tee off at 8:00 AM sharp.

The generosity of our friends and sponsors enables The Simon of Cyrene Society to provide all we can to these amazing kids and families. Everyone who steps out and contributes to such fundraisers touches numerous lives of people you may never meet but who will come to know who you are and love you for your kindness and support. Together, let us make this 2^nd Annual a forever celebration of the life Simon of Cyrene lived in assisting Our Lord Jesus Christ in bearing His cross with Him.

Simon's 2013 Season Has Begun!

 
Simon welcomed spring on the second weekend of March with the First Masses of 2013. We can't believe that sunshine and Easter will soon be upon us! We look forward to catching up with old friends and making new friends in the coming months.

  Spring is Here! 

A New Season of Mass and a New Golf Tournament!

Spring is a time of Renewal and Celebration. For Simon this is especially true as we come together after our winter break.  Monthly Masses began again in March, just in time to prepare for Easter.We hope that we will see our friends old and new come out to join us as we reflect on the Blessings of the Season.

In addition to our Monthly Masses, this Spring sees a new opportunity for our supporters to connect with Simon.  We are hosting our First Annual Fr. Tom Memorial Golf Tournament at George Wright Golf Course on June 4, 2012.

Volunteering with Simon

One of the central services Simon of Cyrene provides is the opportunities for members of the disabled community to come together and share in the social and spiritual celebration of Mass. Every month, our adult membership gathers at the Little Sisters of the Poor in Somerville.

Our gathering in Somerville is an all day event: our members arrive around 11am, mostly via the MBTA Ride, they enjoy coffee and tea, and then are served lunch. After lunch, socializing, shopping, confession, or a visit to the chapel are all options. A speaker usually shares a few words and Mass is then celebrated. The day winds down around 5p as the Ride vans begin to file in again.

This is a wonderful opportunity for our disabled adults to visit with friends, share a meal, and celebrate Mass together.

Throughout the day, volunteers are central to ensuring that everything runs smoothly and everyone gets to enjoy themselves to the fullest. Approximately 90% of the individuals who gather with us in Somerville have a disability that directly affects their mobility. Our volunteers are essential for guiding our members into the facility, serving lunch, and aiding the members as they mingle and enjoy the day.
